On Tybee Island

Tybee Island is an island located about 15 miles from Savannah, Georgia. We spent a morning there while we were staying in Savannah because we couldn't pass up the opportunity to introduce John to the Atlantic Ocean! It was John's first time at the beach, too, and although the weather was chilly, John had the time of his life.

He loved walking down the pavilion and pointing at all the seagulls flying around.

But walking on the beach was his favorite part. At first he was skeptical of walking on the sand, but he found his sea legs pretty quickly. It was adorable to watch him toddle down to the water! While Mommy took photos, Aunt Katharine lifted John up out of harm's way each time the waves started coming up on the beach.

Here's the video I took of John and his beloved ocean.....he really is a fan of water!

Plantation photos

While we were in Charleston, we visited a plantation called Middleton Place. It is home to the oldest landscaped gardens in the United States! John enjoyed being outdoors, but he wanted to walk on his own rather than be pushed in the stroller or carried in the Ergo. This made things a little complicated, but we made do. It definitely helped having three adults there!

John, Mom and Grandma Kay Ellen by the water before John got tired of being in the Ergo.....

Going down a brick staircase with Aunt Katharine.....John loves walking up and down stairs!

The plantation house we didn't go into.....we didn't think John would enjoy it very much.

I wish I had taken some photos in the stableyards, where all the plantation animals are kept. John was very interested in meeting the horses, cows, chickens, water buffalo, and goats. He kept pointing at them and grunting. His most favorite animal of all, though, was the rabbit he saw in its cage. He couldn't take his eyes off that rabbit!

Three videos from the Charleston Children's Museum

John's first-ever trip to a children's museum was in Charleston, South Carolina. John absolutely LOVED the museum and was, needless to say, very sad to have to leave it when it was time to go.

Two of his favorite rooms in the museum were the water room and the grocery store. In the water room, John played with some boats in this huge display simulating how water evaporates into the air and then returns as rain. He also practiced writing his name on a blackboard with a paintbrush and water. The only bad part about this room was the fact that John kept trying to drink the water.

In the grocery store, John pushed around the shopping carts like he was on a bumper cars ride at an amusement park. He wasn't too interested in actually picking out grocery items to put in the cart.

Here's a picture of John with his Aunt Katharine and Grandma Kay Ellen after we left the museum. It was time for his nap in the car!

Visiting our long-lost friends in Augusta

When I was planning our trip to Columbia, South Carolina, I knew I wanted to drive the short distance to Augusta, Georgia to visit our good friends from the Career Course who live there now. Daniela and Kevin had their baby boy, Gabriel, just four days after we had John, so John and Gabriel have been best buddies from birth. John and Gabriel had TONS of playdates together during their first three months of life, and it was great for them to have another extended playdate at 14 months.

Here are the boys walking around the coffee table together.....

Here they are in Gabriel's bedroom having a snack!

Gabriel had just gotten his hair cut, so he looked way older than John!

Daniela was one of the first people to hold John. She and Kevin visited us at the hospital in Dothan after he was born.

Here is a funny video of John teasing Gabriel by withholding Gabriel's pacifier from him. Daniela and I couldn't stop laughing about it, so I started filming it.

We had such a great time with our friends, and we wish we lived a lot closer so we could have regular playdates!
